For those unfamiliar with or unfamiliar with the plot technique called “Mystery Boxing”: Mystery Boxing is a method used by writers to incorporate mysteries and/or secrets into a plot or narrative arc in order to maintain the audience’s attention. They are a hook and part of the overall narrative, while also offering “rewards” to the audience who must guess the contents of the mystery box before it is finally opened or revealed.
The central premise or central mystery box in SILO is very similar to that of LOST
The entire plot of SILO is like a giant minefield of mystery boxes that the viewer must SCRATCH to get through. The real art and success of using mystery boxes depends on the audience’s tolerance for the frequency of their placement and the timing of when the mystery boxes are opened for them. The central question or conundrum for the audience in SILO is, “Why is this community living in a man-made, post-industrial, concrete hole in the ground?” The beginning of SILO is interesting.

The initial “hook,” the set design, the acting, the production values, and the cinematography are all good if the viewer enjoys the overall dystopian genre in a subdued tone. The challenge for the viewer can be the fast pace, the constant unloading of mystery boxes, and the overall slow pace of the story. An Excel spreadsheet can also be helpful in keeping track of all the mysterious boxes dropped in each episode.
The action is slow-paced, with some repetitive storylines
Some viewers may appreciate the level of detail and pacing, while others may have difficulty concentrating. SILO is a dark, subdued, slow-paced dystopian tale that gradually unfolds on a conveyor belt of mysterious boxes.
